Mental Health New Year Resolutions
New Year Mental Health

Dive into our Mental Health New Year Resolutions!

It’s that time of the year where we all panic to make new year resolutions. Usually these include “lose weight, give up chocolate, be more productive”, and the list continues. This year we challenge you to stay away from resolutions that are unrealistic, set you up for failure and make you feel bad about yourself!

New year, new me? NOPE! Love yourself as you are now and work towards healthier habits.

Let’s take a look at some new resolutions for your mental health that will actually benefit you!

1. Make time for self care

Brainstorm a list of self care activities that make you feel good and start to schedule them in your daily routine. These activities can include walking your pet, meditation, taking a bath, reading a book. The world is your oyster! Make it happen and notice the positive changes in your life.

2. Practice self compassion

Work on stopping the negative self talk. Would you talk to a friend the way you talk to yourself sometimes? I think not! Allow yourself to forgive yourself for mistakes. We’re all human doing the best we can.

3. Find a way to move your body

Instead of a strict exercise routine try finding an activity you actually like. This can be walking, skating, rollerblading, or anything you want that gets you moving. If you do decide to start an exercise routine don’t jump to unrealistic standards like working out 6 days a week! Make a commitment to a routine you will stick to. Missed a workout? Don’t sweat it!

4. Focus on sleep hygiene

Studies show us that sleep and mental health are connected. This year try to go to sleep a little bit earlier to get the sleep your body needs. Make yourself a solid bed time time ritual. This can include taking a shower, brushing your teeth, a skin care routine, and reading a good book.

5. Love yourself as you are now

Change is a process and against popular belief, we can’t shame ourselves into change. Happiness and satisfaction about yourself doesn’t happen over night. Learn to love yourself as you are now and work on personal growth.

6. Learn to say “no”

We get it- saying no can be hard, but it’s a skill we all need to learn. Practice by pausing or asking “can I get back to you about that?” before jumping to saying yes. This can be related to work, social events or other commitments.

This year, let’s make a commitment to our mental health together!

Hope these tips help!
